Artist Statement

Fear sits perched and waiting as I walk through life, teasing from me a hesitance towards exploration and new experiences I鈥檝e come to expect from my body. My mind protests vehemently, acknowledging the ridiculousness of how this evolutionary gift chooses to make itself known鈥� and yet my heart still obeys as it lurches, my breathing heeding to its wretched master as it quickens.

Determined to keep me alive against threats that don鈥檛 exist, fear itself becomes my enemy, making decisions for me against my will, offering the easy alternative of flight to all new encounters.

Never satisfied, it hungers for more of me, more of my life鈥� pestering, prodding. It returns each day and takes more than I can give. So, I make a decision.

If I am to teach a ______ to fish, perhaps it will finally subsist on something other than me.
