REC 381: Expedition Leadership - Southeast Alaska & Canadian Costal Range

Explore the wild landscapes of Southeast Alaska and coastal Canada on an immersive expedition with 麻花影视 Outdoor Adventure Leadership and the Alaska Outdoor Science School. Through sea kayaking, rafting, hiking, and other field experiences, students will develop outdoor leadership skills while exploring human鈥搉ature relationships, Indigenous Tlingit culture, and the unique ecology of the region's coastal rainforest. Field-based educational expeirences will be based in Haines, Alaska and the adjacent Canadian coastal range.

The program emphasizes learning through direct experience, encouraging students to examine the deep interconnected relationships among people, landscapes, ecosystems, and culture while developing practical leadership skills in dynamic outdoor environments.

  • AS麻花影视 Scholarship: Up to $500, depending on available funding (Apply early to increase chance of full award)

To Get Started

Step 1: The preferred application deadline is Dec. 6, 2026. The Final application deadline is Jan. 29, 2027. Positions are limited, so please apply early to get preference. Download the application and turn it into the Office of International Studies (Liberal Arts Building, Suite 700). Make sure to include the supplemental documents AND your receipt of the $150 application fee, which is included in the overall price. The $500 program deposit is due Jan. 29, 2027.

Step 2: Register for the spring course: REC 381: Expedition Leadership

Step 3: Be interviewed and accepted into the faculty-led program

Step 4: Make payment arrangements with the Business Office to complete the program payments (final payment deadline varies)

Step 5: Finalize any outstanding documentation for study abroad

Step 6: Purchase roundtrip airfare to Juneau, Alaska 鈥� coordinate with faculty leader and other students

Step 7: Enjoy this life-changing experience!
